In October 2024 I visited Hong Kong, like I do every year, and I like to look at the circulating currency at the time.
The situation has changed since 2018, when there were lots of 2003-2009 dated banknotes in circulation. These have mostly gone and the $20, $50, $100 and $500 are divided 50/50 between 2010-16 and 2018+ or the current series. So there are 6 different banknotes for each denomination in circulation. But I did get a 1997 Standard Chartered Banknote.
For the $10 notes, all the 2018 are recently issues, the oldeast I have seen is 2007 and no paper notes were seen. I did get 2 $10 coins, but these are also scare in circulation, as they are not popular.
For the other coin last mintage, 10 and 50 cents was 2017 and 20 cents was 1998 cents. As I goe very few of these in change, they do not circulate well and mintage should become irregular.
The $1,$2,$5 last mintage was 2019 and all issued dates are common in circulation.
So next year I will see what happens in the banknote areas, as the coins do not change much.
